MERCY MINISTRIES

Pity does not effect change. Prayer and action do.

YWAM's mercy ministries offer countless opportunities for you to literally change the world by changing lives one at a time. Whether you are an experienced medical professional or simply someone who would like to make a difference, mercy ministries have a pressing need for your involvement. From teaching children how to brush their teeth to performing life-saving surgeries, mercy ministry volunteers experience God's grace and transforming power on a daily basis.

One of the most effective and fascinating branches of YWAM's mercy ministries is called Marine Reach. Since 1978, Marine Reach has made a practical difference to those in desperate circumstances. Using ships to dock at remote locations around the world, teams provide life-changing surgeries, dental care, medical supplies, food, seeds, construction materials, development projects, discipleship training, and a message of hope to port cities often inaccessible by land travel. They annually deliver millions of pounds of relief supplies, perform hundreds of surgeries, and preach the Gospel to thousands.

Is seasickness a concern? In addition to Marine Reach, YWAM has related land-based ministries in most nations. For example, urban workers in Brazil, Colombia, India, Mozambique and other countries around the globe fight a daily battle to improve the bleak nutritional, safety, economic, and spiritual conditions in those locations, where the most vulnerable victims are children.

Matthew 5:16 instructs us, “Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Are you one of the few willing to let your light shine in the dark places of the world where it is needed most?

James 1:27 States that “Religion that God the Father considers pure and faultless is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep ones self from being polluted by the world.” Are you willing to one of the few that go and make a difference to the orphans of the world? When you go ministering to the hungry and hurting even for just a few weeks, you can change their lives with the peace and comfort Jesus for eternity.

YWAM uses various mercy ministries to meet some of the practical and physical needs of over 400,000 people annually. Whether it’s caring for street kids in Bogotá; serving the poor in the smoking trash dumps of Manila; feeding and housing orphans in Africa, or hiking to villages in the mountains of India to demonstrate and declare the Good News both practically and verbally, the opportunities for you to be involved are limitless.
