DTS Outreach (Field Assignment)
Why do all branches of the military run boot camps? To sharpen character,
build unity, and prepare their personnel for challenges ahead. An unfocused,
undisciplined, disorganized army is courting disaster.
What would the spiritual version of West Point look like? Probably a lot
like a YWAM Discipleship Training School, called DTS for short. DTS sharpens
character, builds unity, and prepares YWAMers for missions challenges
ahead. But unlike a military boot camp, DTS teaches us as Christians to
do more than follow the directions of our Commanding Officer, God. It
teaches us to understand His heart.
DTS
serves as a time to invest in these areas:
-
Knowing God in depth
- Gaining
tools and experience for telling others of your relationship with Christ
- Forming
Christian character
- Establishing
Biblical relationships with God, family, and friends
Rather than having students simply accumulate information, DTS strives
to develop each student’s daily walk with God. The five- or six-month
program consists of three months of classroom teaching Lecture
Phase and two or three months on Outreach
where you are actively taking what you learned in the classroom and
sharing it with others, usually in a cross-cultural setting.
